THE INTERVIEW

I’m sure we’re all ready to leave 2020 behind us. Maybe it isn’t about leaving 2020 behind us so much as it is heading into the new year with good intentions, and integrating all of the hard lessons we’ve learned in the past. You’ll hear from Danielle Paige, Natalia Benson, Danielle Beinstein, Jessica Lanyadoo, and Chani Nicolas. Astrology is a mixture of science and intuition, and it’s fascinating to hear the common themes that come out, along with how their intuitive perspectives differ.

We also talk about:

  • Saturn changing signs
  • Wiping the slate clean
  • Not getting stuck in the past
  • Quick movement and change
  • Looking at our patterns
  • Moving from our head to our heart
  • How 2021 will be more of the same in many ways
  • The tension between what we owe and what we want
  • Pluto and the death of the ego
  • Living with more depth

THE INTERVIEW

K+L originally spoke to Alok Vaid Menon about two years ago — or, in 2020 terms, a lifetime ago — and it continues to be a relevant and important conversation for us to share. There are few people who have had such a lasting impact, not just from the show but from life. K+L left this conversation feeling more human, more connected, more aware of how they affect others: exactly what our world desperately needs more of right now. Alok also recently released a book, “Beyond the Gender Binary,” which shows that gender is a malleable and creative form of expression only limited by your creativity. So, to celebrate the book and this beautiful, powerful, kind, and heart-centered soul, we wanted to share the conversation again.

We also talk about:

  • The ins and outs of your passion being your business
  • Growing up (emotionally repressed) in a small Texas town
  • Southern “politeness”
  • Balancing being a strong example for others + being a complex, flawed human
  • Why it hurts when we turn someone into a metaphor and a symbol
  • Visibility does not mean safety for women and trans people
  • Where Alok developed their emotional vocabulary
  • Gender + shame
  • Learning not to fear their own gender nonconformity
  • The psychology of fascism
  • Why Alok is frustrated by the individualism of self-care
  • The people who bully us want to be us
  • Aesthetics as political resistance
  • Violence against gender non-conforming individuals has escalated over the past few years
  • What we can all do, every day, to challenge the current paradigm

THE INTERVIEW

Many of us have been taking supplements for years without realizing all the additives that go into them, such as binders and fillers made from sheep's wool, corn, soy and other less desirable ingredients. We’re finding out that what we’re taking to improve our internal harmony may not be as helpful as we’ve been told. This conversation with Sara Cullen, the founder of GEM (get 20% off with code ALMOST30), brings to light some of the things that we should be considering when shopping for supplements, as well as the benefits of GEM: “anti-vitamin” alternative made with real food.. She also goes into the synergistic effects of food and how some foods work together to create greater bioavailability of nutrients, the importance of Vitamin D, why algae is the new trend in nutrition, and her story of starting a company with some great advice for any budding entrepreneurs.

We also talk about:

  • The early days of GEM and the inspiration behind it
  • Finding out what’s in the vitamins and minerals you’re taking
  • Reducing the amount of filler in our diets
  • The regulation loopholes of the supplement industry
  • Learning from the mistakes of your first company
  • Using algae for nutrition
  • The effectiveness of food synergy
  • Advice for early stage entrepreneurs

When Lindsey was single, she started taking solo trips. It’s one of those things she always gets questions about: What do you recommend? How do you not freak out? How do you manage anxiety or loneliness? Being alone is a chance to come back to center and recognize your own energy, and by doing something active and engaging alone, without having to juggle others’ expectations, it can be a great opportunity to tune into your own wants, needs, and desires.

She goes into the purpose of solo trips, things that might come up, the feelings around anticipation, managing excitement and anxiety, and maximizing the opportunities found in taking a trip like this. Solo trips are an incredible way to heal your soul.

We also talk about:

  • Why it’s important to be thinking about this now, during this time of year
  • Why Lindsey started taking solo trips
  • Planning your solo trip
  • Spending on what’s important to you
  • Creating a mood board
  • Taking safety precautions
  • Finding a balance of routine and freedom

THE INTERVIEW

Sex work has a stigma... Notice:  how do you feel when you hear the title “Sex Worker”?  What assumptions do you make?  K + L want to give sex work the conversation it deserves.  Alice Little joins the girls for an intimate, enlightening, and empowering conversation about her career in sex work. She answers literally any question you’d ever want to ask a sex worker and she does not hold back. There’s something about what she does that is incredibly healing and therapeutic. There’s so much shame around expressing yourself sexually and through your body, but this conversation with Alice is educational and dynamic, which we hope will clear up the confusion about what the sex industry is all about.

We also talk about:

  • The stigma around sex work
  • Misconceptions are sex workers
  • The current legality of sex work in the United States
  • The way the internet is changing the field
  • Getting “the girlfriend experience”
  • Where it can be empowering and disempowering

THE SOLO

No matter how wonderful our mothers are, we all carry trauma from our early childhood related to them. Krista has been on a long healing journey to recover from the abandonment issues, insecurity, codependency, and narcissism that’s followed her from that relationship. And when you’re thinking about starting a family—there’s no way you want your kids treating you the way you treated your mom. Not happening. This is for all the people that felt ashamed when they didn’t have that beautiful, nurturing relationship with their mom. If you’re struggling in life to overcome the baggage created by your parents, take what you can from Krista’s own work of healing, moving on, and reforging a new relationship with her mother.

We also talk about:

  • Doing the work to heal the mother wound
  • The issues formed through Krista’s childhood
  • The coping mechanisms for that trauma
  • Letting go of your past relationship
  • Releasing expectations
  • Showing up in your relationship
  • Leaning into the sister relationship
  • Being conscious of the messages we pass to our daughters
  • Looking at our damage

We also talk about:

THE INTERVIEW

Danielle LaPorte’s books “Desire Map” and “White Hot Truth” were game changers for K+L when they first moved to LA, and they’ve followed her teachings ever since. They *go there* in this interview. We’re talking about Christ consciousness, the spiritual warfare happening in the world today, saving the children, atonement, leadership, finding peace in unstable times, living a reflective life, and so much more. She’s leaning out her spiritual menu and dropping what isn’t moving her along. She’s trying to feel her own suffering instead of distracting from it, like so many of us do. It’s pure medicine for the soul.

We also talk about:

  • Maintaining peace through all the chaos of the world
  • Our collective relationship with death
  • The importance of forgiveness
  • The distinction between Jesus and Christ
  • Looking for a relationship with God
  • Stepping into a new age
  • “Save the Children”
  • Getting rid of what we don’t need
  • Understanding true leadership

THE INTERVIEW

Nadine Artemis knows there’s a better, more natural path to overall wellness than the standards our society has shown us. She’s helping us break through old standards of health and caring for our bodies that aren’t working and making way for more natural, effective solutions. If we can get our oral and dental care natural, we are on our way. She also talks about being in the sun and how important that is to our health as a natural way to heal us and improve our mood and immunity. She’s incredibly knowledgeable, and in her new book, “Renegade Beauty,” she breaks down everything you need to know about clean beauty. Can she be our second mom?
